As the 13th International Congress of Coptic Studies approaches, we are pleased to present the booklet accompanying the manuscript exhibition Entangled Communities: Global Egypt and Its Multilingual Manuscript Heritage, curated by Lina Elhage-Mensching and Alin Suciu.
The booklet introduces the central idea of the exhibition, namely that Egypt’s manuscript heritage cannot be understood in isolation, but only as part of a vast network of cultural, linguistic, and religious interactions spanning Africa, Asia, and the Mediterranean. It also presents the content of all twenty-one display cases, offering descriptions of the manuscripts included in the exhibition.
Furthermore, the booklet provides historical background on three important nineteenth-century scholars closely associated with Göttingen’s manuscript collections, Paul de Lagarde, Heinrich Brugsch, and Heinrich Ferdinand Wüstenfeld.
We look forward to welcoming you to the exhibition!
